Urdu Readings: Khaaka Nigari II
Readers: Aseem Hattangady, Jaimini Pathak, Sapan Saran & Udit Parashar
"Our hugely popular Urdu dramatic readings programme is back in a new avatar! This edition will feature brilliant writing in different forms – letters, poetry, satire, articles, newspaper columns, and so on.
The first two sessions were a selection of letters written by Mirza Ghalib, followed by letters of Saadat Hasan Manto, Rajinder Singh Bedi, and Safiya Akhtar.
For the third and fourth sessions, we had a set of satirical and humorous tales by Pitras Bokhari, Ibn-e-Insha, Krishan Chander, Chaudhari Muhammad Ali Rudaulvi and Yunus Bhat, among others.
In the fifth session we considered ‘Khaaka-Nigari’ — the age-old tradition of pen sketches in Urdu literature. We read pieces by writers, poets and social commentators such as Farhatulla Baig, Josh Malihabadi, Shahid Ahmed Dahelvi & Ismat Chughtai.
Session #6: Continuing our exploration of ‘Khaaka-Nigari’, we look at pen sketches by other Urdu writers - Ahmed Bashir, Ashraf Sabuhi Dahelvi, Rashid Ahmed Siddiqui and Saadat Hasan Manto.
Readers: Asad Hussain, Aseem Hattangady & Nisha Dhar
